From EE Profile to PPR – The journey!!

Hi everyone,

Its only been a day since we had received our PPR (Passport Request). Hurray!!!

And I couldn’t wait to share my experience over here. Because straight from horse’s mouth is a way better method to understand than googling away for hours.

So,

We began the process accidentally when my husband clicked a random link, while browsing, which asked him to fill in his details to check eligibility for a PR (Permanent Residency) to Canada. Him, being a college professor in spite of his Master Degree in Mechanical engineering, had settled to think that a life abroad is not his piece of cake, considering the little demand for Asian educated lecturers in western world. But for the fun of doing it, he filled in the assessment form and booom!!!

“Your are eligible to apply for the PR

Your NOC (National occupation code) code is currently open in the province of Nova Scotia.”

This message literally strik’ed’ against his screen!!

Then followed the days of researching about the process of Express entry immigration to Canada,  the expenses and how wise it would be to hire a consultancy.

We ran quite a few searches through the internet to find a reliable consultancy and also used some of our contacts to find a reliable one. During the process a lot of people discouraged us from the idea of hiring a consultant as the IRCC ( Imigration, refugees and Citizenship Canada) website is pretty self explanatory about the process. But then we didn’t want to take any chance, so anyway we hired one, after a month long search.

The divisions in which the IRCC give you CRS ( Comprehensive Ranking System) points are:

  • Age (25-29, highest point)
  • Education (Phd has highest point followed by Professional education or Masters)
  • Work experience (at least one continuous year of experience is mandatory)
  • IELTS (It is the major part – L-8 & R,W,S- 7 each is a sure shot score)
  • Parents/siblings/ spouse settled as a PR in Canada
  • Canadian education
  • Canadian work experience

So our first step was to get the ECA done ( Educational Credential Assessment done from MCC and WES respectively for me and my husband.

Steps for getting an ECA done from MCC …ECA from MCC

Steps for getting transcripts and ECA by WES…Transcripts and WES

Then we gave our IELTS. Luckily we got 8, 7 , 7, 7 in our first try. ( Ieltsliz.com and ieltsbuddy.com are too good for the preparation)

Once ECA and IELTS were done, our CRS point was calculated and it was 478!!!.

It gave us a head start and we went on to create our EE (Express Entry) profile.

A EE profile needs you to submit a lot of your details from the past 10 years or from the age of 18 years.

Which includes:

  • Educational history (details of schools and colleges attended)
  • Personal history (all activities undertaken like studying/ period of unemployment/ employment/ any other activity)
  • Address history
  • Any association membership history
  • work experience
  • NOC code, job role and duties

The histories should be filled such that there is no gap in them. Any missing history may raise suspicion during the immigration.

All thanks to the lord almighty, we submitted our EE profile and got our ITA (Invitation to Apply) in about 2 weeks.

Once ITA was received we had 90 days to submit the required documents including Medicals and PCC (police clearance certificate).

Medicals included:

  • Blood test for viral markers (HIV, HBsAg, HCV),
  • Vision testing,
  • Chest X-ray,
  • Urine testing
  • A whole body examination by a physician.

The result was uploaded directly to IRCC website by the hospital and we were given a receipt which we had to submit along with other documents.

Obtaining the PCC is a job done at your local passport office. If you have had a passport issued in less than a few years, the PCC will be issued on-the-spot ( in India). We had renewed our passport recently, so we received it on-the-spot ( again luck!!).

You are required to submit a PCC from every country you have lived for more than 6 consecutive months. Steps for attaining PCC from each country is given in the IRCC website…. How to get a PCC

Once you have the above two, then, the other documents required are

  • Educational documents ( all educational documents including your higher secondary, senior secondary, bachelor’s and above)
  • Educational Assessment Sheet from WES or other respective Agency
  • IELTS Marksheet.
  • Work experience letter( which should mention your years of experience, job role, duties you perform and working hours).
  • Proof of settlement fund (a bank statement issued by bank).
  • Photographs.
  • Passport pages copy (all pages including blank and stamped).
  • Marriage certificate (if applies), if you are applying along with your spouse then get ECA, IELTS and all other documents for them as well.
  • Letter of explanation can be given if you have any mismatches in your documents like difference in initial of name, last name, lack of experience certificate etc
  • !!! if you do not have an experience letter then do not claim points for it instead include it in personal history and explain in LOE!!!

The day we submitted our documents we received an AOR ( Acknowledgement of Receipt).

After about 12 days we received our Medicals passed status and in 56 days, our golden mail, the PPR!!

Everyday passed like an year when we were waiting for the PPR.

And now we are anxiously waiting to embark on our new journey.

Thanks for reading.

Good luck to those who are trying for the Canadian immigration. 🙂

  1. Hi. Congratz. Did you do your medicals before or after your ITA / AOR… How many days did it take from the Dr visit until ‘medical passed ‘

    1. Hi, thank you.
We did our medicals after getting ITA. Because finally when you get your CoPR, your validity for the one time entry visa will be one year since the day of your medicals. So it’s better to do it last, that’s right before submitting your documents/AOR. We did our medicals on jan 22nd and got to know about our medicals passed status on feb 28.

    1. Hi,
The expenditure depends on how you plan to approach the process, with or without consultant. If you are planning to do it yourself then the expenditure may come around 1 lakh. And if you are going for a consultant then it may cost you double the amount(usually more).

You may apply alone, there is no problem with that. But if you wish to take your husband along with you then its better to include him as well.

  3. If someone has low CRS score, can PNP help him to get ITA, do you have any knowledge regarding this.. thanks in advance

    Like

    1. Yes. Once you receive a PNP you get additional 600 points which gives you enough and more score to get an ITA.
Each province has their own cutoff of CRS for PNP. For Ontario it’s 400, I think and for some provinces it is as low as 380 or 350. Find out more about the PNP of each province and their criteria’s from the PNP link. I have only a limited knowledge on that front.

  4. Hi Sharma,
Sorry, Just now I searched on this topic and found that some people has received request for a passport validity of 12 months as well. So, my best guess is that it must be country specific. Therefore, if you are in a position where you can renew your passport, then do that and be safe.

    Thank you,
    Regards

    1. Hi Dr. Ankit,

Different provinces have different rules and regulations regarding accepting an IMG into a medical program.
Some provinces have a facility called Physician Ready Assessment, which enables specialist doctors with experience to practice in Canada without the mandatory residency.

Please check out the MCC website for the terms and regulations in different provinces.

Any day a doctor with complete licence is highly valued in Canada because of the lack of enough health care physicians. So once you get through, then no need to look back.

      Thank you and regards,

      Dr. Neethi

  7. Hi,
I believe you are well settled in 🍁 Canada.. I would like to know if you were called in for Biometrics before PPR, because we went through the same process, but we were invited for biometrics.
    Thank you.

    1. Hi Mercy,

We did not go through Biometrics. They launched biometrics recently. They implemented it for all visas, it seems. When we were doing the process, only random applicants got a biometric request.

  8. Hi Doctor, I am planning to move to Canada myself. However, I only have a Bachelors degree with over 10 years of solid background working for big companies like IBM, HCL and Capgemini. I work with clients based in US and Canada all the time and have a descent command over English. That being said, my wife’s english is not so good and I doubt she’ll be able to clear IELTS. Can I apply for the PR all alone and then get my wife along later as a dependent?

    1. Hi,
You can add your wife as a dependent in your current application and in the English language skill assessment section for her, give it as Not applicable. Your points for the same would be zero, but if you have enough points otherwise then you can proceed with your application.

  9. It’s always good to get your COPR.
Well hope you have settled and we wanted to know about a certain point.
We got our ITA in January 2019.
    Medical call – Feb 2019
Uploaded all doc before time we are waiting for the PPR for almost 80 days now and our timeline in the CIC website says August 2019.
So can you assist in the same.
There are many people in quora which mentioned about timeline as IR1,BG so on.
When should we book our flight tickets.
How is the COPR visa stamp and duration.
    Thanks in advance

    1. Hi,
The COPR can take anywhere from weeks to 1 year. There is nothing one can do about it. The case handling time solely depends on the visa officer or visa office.

It is always better to wait for the COPR before booking flight tickets. Once you receive it, you need to land in Canada before the expiry(1 year) of your Medicals, otherwise you might need to re-do it. COPR is usually valid for 1 year and expiry date almost always succeeds medical expiry date.

      Thank you and Regards

    1. Hi Praveen,

At present the CRS draws are happening around the score 450. But one can never predict the CRS draws as they often surprises with some low score draws. So I would say 432 is like on the gambling edges!!

IT has scope all over Canada but Toronto is obviously the hub.

      Thank you
